A rail strike in Europe prevented me from fully using my rail pass. Can I get a refund on the unused days?

Train strikes unfortunately happen, which can frustrate many customers. We suggest that you work directly with the railway company when strikes occur to file a claim.

Are reservations included in my pass?

No, seat reservations are not included and must be purchased separately.

Are there any extra order fees?

There are shipping fees.

Are there discounts available for rail passes?

Beyond train travel, there are additional benefits associated with each rail pass. Examples of discounts include free or discounted ferry and bus fares, discounts on hotel and hostel reservations, and discounts on tours or attractions.

Can I book hotels and hostels at RailPass.com?

Can I book sightseeing tours and activities through RailPass.com?

Yes, you can book Italy tours through our sister website, Italiadeals.com.

Can I buy Eurail passes in Europe?

Not all passes are available for sale in Europe, and it will depend on which country you are in whether you can purchase a pass. Passes that can be purchased are usually priced higher than they would be through RailPass.com. Passes can be purchased at Eurail Aid Offices, located at major European train stations; you can find their locations in the Eurail app.

Can I change seats after the train departs?

It is not likely. You would have to check with the conductor to find out if any open seats are available.

Can I exchange or refund my rail pass while in Europe?

No. Rail passes can only be exchanged or refunded by the issuing office.

Can I get a refund for unused days on my rail pass?

No, there are no refunds for unused days.

Can I print my pass as an e-ticket?

No, rail passes must be printed by an authorized company and shipped to you.

Can I print my rail pass at the station?

No you cannot. All rail passes must be printed and mailed to passholder.

Can I protect my pass against loss and theft?

Yes, purchasing travel insurance is recommended.

Can I purchase seat reservations from RailPass.com once I’m already traveling in Europe?

We only sell seat reservations for trains in Italy.

Can I return my rail pass or train ticket for a refund?

Rail passes are refundable at 85% of pass value if unused (and unvalidated) and returned to the address listed below within one year of the issue date.

Train Tickets: Many train tickets are non-refundable and non-changeable. Some train tickets are 75%–80% refundable if canceled within 72 hours after booking.

 

Pass Exchanges: Pass exchanges must be made via the address listed below. Once your request is received in our office, we will exchange the pass. If there is a rate increase, you will just pay the difference in price plus a USD $15 exchange fee and new shipping charges. If the exchange causes a rate decrease, you will be charged a 15% cancellation penalty on the old pass, the cost of the new pass, plus a new shipping fee.
