Hungary

Hungary lies in the Carpathian Basin of Central Europe where the jewel of the Danube still shines with facets of multiple architectural styles. Hungarian cuisine is hardy and flavorful. When dining on one of the many specialties, be sure to add a little Bull's Blood (wine) from Eger. Hungary has six UNESCO World Heritage sites including the scientifically significant Baradla-Domica cave system of Aggtelek and Hortobagy's National Park, one of Europe's largest protected grasslands. © 2009, The Globe Pequot Press, LaVerne Ferguson-Kosinski Information by Europe by Eurail

The Hungarian State Railways (MAV) includes more than 4,844 miles of rail lines with 1,423 miles electrified. Fifty-four international trains per day arrive in Budapest, including Euronight (EN) service from Zurich and Bucharest. Keleti Station is the terminus for most international express trains in Budapest, with the exception of the Adriatica, Agram, Maestri, and Graz trains, which terminate in Budapest Deli Station. Although Keleti Station has undergone extensive improvements and restoration since its original construction in 1884, the old charm is still evident. Deli Station is a modern concrete edifice on the Buda side of the Danube. Trains arrive overhead on uncovered platforms that lead to a covered concourse, with an enclosed waiting room and ticket office just beyond. The MAV accepts the variety of Eurail passes and the European East pass. © 2009, The Globe Pequot Press, LaVerne Ferguson-Kosinski Information by Europe by Eurail
